I would like to know what your best experience has been with rope dropping and what strategy worked best for you. We rope drop every opportunity we can. We have had the experience of being the first ones at the park at AK and amongst the first 10 at Magic Kingdom. However our most surprising and enjoyable rope drop was at Hollywood studios. We went against the crowd and rope dropped Tower of Terror (first in line). In the rope drop period (they started us early, we were able to do Tower of Terror, Rocking Roller coaster twice and got to Mickey and Minnie's railroad ride before the official park open. We had our first Genie plus for Slinky Dog Dash at 9:30 and our ILL for Rise at 10:15. It was an awesome morning !

Going to add one more rope drop memory, this time at Magic Kingdom. We went against the current and rope dropped Space Mountain. We were front of line for rope drop, did Space Mountain, then headed to Peter Pan. The first rope drop rush was over there so we had virtually no wait at Peter Pan. Then got in line on entrance from Fantasyland to Liberty Town for second rope drop (park open and rope drop to Frontierland, and Adventureland). We went right to ThunderMountain and did that twice before our first Geneie plus for Haunted Mansion at 9:30. Again, great start to the day Geneie plus (with lots of slot playing say us get everything in (including 2nd round of Space Mountain and Peter Pan. We have had great luck at rope drop by avoiding the Seven Dwarfs and Jungle Cruise popularity).
I'm a bit of an outlier here, but I went in May (so maybe a bit less crowded), but found that as long as you play the Disney Genie Slots, stack what you can and buy Individual Lightning Lanes, you can still do all the main rides easily in all the parks (can't comment on Hollywood Studios as I only did After Hours), if you hit the parks at midday...so no rope drop necessary at all, and chilled out mornings! :-)
Definitely at MGM.. heading to Galxies Edge and starting the day there fleeing the Empire and flying in the Falcon really sets the feel and pace for the day.
Rope drop took us 15 minutes to get through the turnstiles.
We had a 930 LL for Slinky so we went straight for Toy story mania since it's a family favorite. We wanted to get the next LL as soon as we could.
We ended up being able to ride Toy story mania 3 times throughout the day then
That sounds awesome! I love rope drop as well. We have taken many trips over the years and there is just something special about early mornings at WDW. Can't say that I'm always super excited to hop out of bed here at home! However, we haven't been in 6 years, so I'm not sure if my now teenagers are going to be as eager to get up that early on this next trip haha! Maybe bribing them with extra snacks will work! This will be our first experience with Genie+ and there are many new attractions since our last visit so I am trying to gather as much strategy info as I can. Thanks for your post!
Thanks for posting this. I am a little scared of Tower of Terror. But glad I know now to go to Rocking Roller Coaster and Mickey and Minnies Railroad. Are they both close to each other?
We LOVE rope dropping the rides on Sunset (Tower & Coaster) because you can get so much more done. The early entry crowds are all at Rise and Slinky, so you kinda lose your morning riding one of those unless the park is really slow. We also love starting in Dinoland USA and Asia at AK because it is DEAD over there and you can get Dinosaur, TriceraTops Spin (if you've got littles) and Everest done in record time.
